Description
Vintage Moroccan Handira Blanket No. 148, a cream and white striped blanket with rows soft tassel fringing and silver sequins.
One-of-a-kind vintage textiles handwoven on traditional looms in the mountain villages of Morocco. Handira are woven as wedding blankets imbued with blessings for the newly married couple and adorned with sequins to ward off the evil eye. Traditionally the bride would wear the blanket as a cloak around her shoulders on the journey from her birth village to village of her new husband.
These heavy blankets are woven from wool and cotton for protection from cold winters in the mountainous regions of the country. Handira wedding blankets are fabulous heirloom textiles and good examples of this craft are becoming increasingly rare.
They make wonderful statement pieces in the contemporary bohemian home, hung on a wall, laid on a bedroom floor or as a cosy blanket or sofa throw.
Please Note | These are vintage products, full of character, so may have slight discolouring, small marks or fraying thread.
